The State-wide Wine Trail Project which is being funded by the Federal government through the whole Western Australian wine industry, is in its early stages of development. This Association is working with the Co-ordinator, Peter Rigby, to make wine travel through out the whole State easier to plan and do.

The Great Southern region is the largest, in area, of all wine regions in Australia and produces 37% of wine grapes produced in Western Australia.
The five sub-regions of Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and the Porongorups have vastly different climatic conditions which means a visit to the Great Southern can be an exciting experience as the visitor moves about our diverse region.

Five Sub-regions make up the Region of the Great Southern.They are: Albany , Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and The Porongorups.There are five major wineries spread throughout the region ( West Cape Howe, Ferngrove, Alkoomi,Goundrey Wines ,Plantagenet Wines) One major processing winery in the Porongorup Winery. As well as this there are large number of processing facilities run by small to medium companies that process their own as well as other wine labels wines on contract.
This structure leads to a great diversity across the whole region with in recent times an influx of very experienced, talented wine makers coming into the region to man the range of wineries mentioned above.
