History
In 1996, stock broking colleagues Terry Hogan and Eve Broadley made a lifelong dream a reality, by purchasing vineyard sites in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia.
Having been captivated early by the romance and challenges of the wine industry, the business partners applied a professional approach to their research, spending years investigating the region to find the most promising conditions to produce premium fruit.
It was during this extensive research that led them to John Gladstone’s popular book 'Viticulture and Environment', which concluded 'the best vineyard growing environments of the great southern lie to the south of Mt Barker and Muirs Highway'.
The compelling research and strong vision has proved an overwhelming success, with over 140 hectares of three stunning vineyards, a winery at the foothills of the Porongurup Ranges and a successful and highly sought after wine label - XABREGAS.
The brand
XABREGAS produces the finest Great Southern cool-climate fruit which creates premium wines of exceptional elegance, sophistication and style.
It is synonymous with quality and value and has become a much sought after label, with demand outstripping supply.
Xabregas has received many accolades and awards in local, national and international wine competitions and also received a five-star rating and the title of Best Mt Barker Winery in James Halliday's 2007 Australian Wine Companion.
The winemaking team, led by Senior Winemaker Greg Jones, combine its talents and expertise to craft award winning Xabregas wines - with each approachable and ready to drink early in their lives, but also designed to cellar well, providing further enjoyment in years to come.
The talented winemakers also have the benefit of the latest in technology to optimize the expression of the fruit and make wines with a true finesse.
Xabregas has two of only three world-renowned Ganimede fermenters available in Western Australia. The Ganimede fermenter produces more colour and a softer and aromatic wine - a method so well recognized in international wine circles, that many wineries using the method run an authorized label around the top neck of their bottles.
In addition to supplying fruit for its own premium label, Xabregas vineyards supply fruit on contract to some of Western Australia’s most acclaimed wineries including Howard Park, Houghton’s, Forest Hill and Harewood. A true representation to the exceptional quality of the fruit produced at the Xabregas vineyards.
Now available throughout Australia and exported to the United States, UK, China and New Zealand, Xabregas has successfully established itself as a leading producer of exceptional Great Southern wines.
