Wine production and wineries in the Great Southern Wine Region

Within the Great Southern region the area under vines is 5775 acres and is the largest of the nine regions in W.A.

With the climate ranging from Maritime to Mediteranean, the region produces outstanding varietal styles of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with some excellent Pinot Noir from selected areas.

Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are the main white varieties produced, with Frankland River, Mount Barker and the Porongorups being Sub Regions which do this variety exceptionally well. Chardonnay is produced across the Region with excellent wines being consistantly produced. Sauvignon Blanc is being produced in a style which is being regarded as the Great Southerns own, more full bodied than in vastly cooler growing areas around Australia.

Our members are evenly spread throughout the Great Southern and will provide details when you visit them of Great Southern attractions and other wineries in the Region. All have our 'Great Southern Wine and Food Guide' which is available free.

We have as an interim measure provided a current list of our members with basic details. Shortly we will be posting a comprehensive page for each member with links to their individual websites, relevant details of their operations with places to stay and eat in their vicinity.
